Voice and Data Cabling
Cost effective cabling solutions
Cost effective cabling solutions
Extera offer nationwide voice, data and fibre optic cabling services. Our customer base ranges from SME’s to GLOBAL blue chip companies who require a reliable and professional cabling partner to deliver a first class service.
This traditional method of cabling telephone circuits is not as popular as it once was with the implementation of structured cabling and voice over IP, however there are still situations where it is required / desirable and we are able to assist you whenever it does.
This ‘enhanced’ version of CAT 5 supports 10 gigabit speeds and with bandwidth up to 200MHz and less interference than its predecessor. As the lowest category cable for gigabit Ethernet it’s a cost-effective solution for applications such as media streaming and application that need to transmit large datasets.
Category 6 cable is backwardly compatible with CAT3 and CAT5/5e standards. It has improved specifications over the previous standards providing performance of up to 250 MHz and is suitable for 10BASE-T, 100BASE-TX (Fast Ethernet), 1000BASE-T/1000BASE-TX (Gigabit Ethernet) at lengths of up to 100 metres and 10GBASE-T (10 Gigabit Ethernet) up to lengths of 55 metres.
This augmented version of the CAT6 standard from the TIA was defined in February 2009. Category 6A is defined for frequencies of unto 500 MHz – twice that of CAT 6 allowing 10GBASE-T to be used over 100 metre distances instead of the 55 metre limit when used over CAT 6.
This is an ISO standard and not supported by the TIA. It is not backward compatible with Cat3-Cat6a, requiring the cables to be terminated with GG45, ARJ45, or TERA connectors instead of RJ45 connectors.
Category 8 will be the next UTP cabling that will offer backward compatibility.
10G Ethernet can be used on all of the above cables, however it is only ‘supported’ on CAT 6 cables no longer than 55 metres and CAT6a cables up to 100 metres.
Multi mode fibre-optic cables are suitable for short distances such as within buildings or a clams allowing data rates of 10 Gbits/s over lengths of up to 600 metres. The active equipment for multi mode fibre optics are usually less expensive than single mode.
Single mode fibre-optic cables are required for longer lengths or higher data rates, currently allowing 10Gbits/s over 80km and 40Gbits/s over 40km.
All of our installations are comprehensively tested using calibrated FLUKE TDR and OTDR testers.
All aspects of containment for industrial and commercial installations can be undertaken including uni-strut, dado trunking and COPEX etc whilst ensuring the required bending radii and electrical separation are met.
